The 5 Biggest Wedding Trends for 2021

We are so excited that weddings are back! For all our brides & grooms who have had the disappointment of their wedding day being postponed and engaged couples who have patiently waited to 'save the date', now is your time to enjoy the wedding journey. Here at Millers Floral Design we have been creating wedding flowers for over 40 years, and you could say we are a little bit crazy in love with weddings - we really do love them. So we take a peek at the wedding trends that are shining in 2021 and predictions for 2022!

Love Local

This year is all about staying local, and all the little things that make your wedding day that extra special with homely touches. Just like loved up duo Annabel & Sam, who said ‘I Do’ back in May, whose wedding day was filled to the brim with really personal details and the couple used local wedding suppliers and venues to help them celebrate in style which we just adore.

They married at nearby Holy Trinity Dobcross Church, where Annabel’s parents and sister also married, talented wedding photographer Paul Swift took the wedding party to Lark Hill for portraits - the spot where Sam had popped the question, and of course the wedding flowers designed by their local wedding florist – Millers Floral Design! All these little touches made for a memorable and personal experience for the couple, along with their friends and families included in the special moments.

Destination Weddings... at Home

The pandemic may have meant we couldn’t all hop on a plane for a destination wedding, but instead bring the destination to you!  There are many ways to cleverly add a destination theme to your wedding through venue styling, flower choices, menu options, entertainment and decoration accessories.

Those dreaming of a Hawaiian beach wedding can use blooms such as strelitzia, orchids and vibrant coloured petals to add a tropical feel to wedding flowers. Or perhaps if you were planning a romantic Italian villa getaway, source local wines and Italian style food along with floral designs of flowing greenery and classic urns adorned with white roses. Think about the entertainment too - there are some fabulous performers, bands and musicians who can help add an extra level to a destination theme day.

The Great Outdoors

In 2021 and 2022, couples are planning weddings with venues that embrace the great outdoors! Demand for Tipi tents, stylish igloos and marquees has sky rocketed, as wedding celebrations will have more focus on maximising outside space. Wedding venues with grand terraces and beautifully manicured stately home gardens will also be a huge hit, the perfect setting for canapes and champagne receptions. This trend will also see wedding flowers taking centre stage, transforming ordinary structures like tipi tents into stunning settings with green garlands, hanging installations, floral arches and blossom trees.

We are so lucky to be based in Oldham on the outskirts of Manchester, with luxury wedding venues, quirky barns and outdoor settings to get hitched on our doorstep. Some of our favourites include the exclusive town house to hire Eleven Didsbury Park with a fabulous outdoor covered dining area, The Stables Wedding Farm set in the rolling Saddleworth hills, unforgettable setting of Holmfirth Vineyard, intimate weddings at Elizabeth Gaskell's House  with stunning restored gardens for photo shoots and outdoor weddings in the dreamy pavilion at The Wellbeing Farm near Edgworth.

English Garden Feels

Inspired by the intimate royal wedding of Princess Beatrice who married her prince charming at Windsor Castle last year, the trend for English Garden floral theme has been HUGE for weddings in 2021. Think dramatic yet whimsical installations, stylish yet relaxed floral designs, full of our favourite garden country stems in soft pastel pinks, creams and whites. This can include seasonal flowers such as garden roses, hydrangeas, delphiniums, peonies, trailing jasmine and sweet peas to names just a few!

The Millers Floral Design team can give you expert guidance and tips on seasonal flowers to best suit the time of year you are getting married, and suggest blooms that will suit your style and budget. So if you are dreaming of a Garden Style wedding day full of English blooms, get in touch and we can help!

Bold Vibes

2021 is the year to see big, bold and bright wedding flowers. Happy couples finally tying the knot after patiently waiting due to the pandemic want to make a statement with colourful and happy flowers. Just like one of our lovely Millers Floral Design couples, Laura & Josh, who opted for stunning bold tones for their Summer wedding theme. Sunshine yellow sunflowers combined with pink and peach roses, daisies and bright blue delphinium made for stylish and fun wedding flowers for their happy day of celebrations.

Our beautiful bride Laura messaged us to say “Thank you so much for doing my wedding flowers…I’m still getting compliments!”.
